 9-11-13\n\nLori Anne Parker\, Ph.D. candidate in philosophy and editor at 
 the Frist Center\, will examine the art of Hyman Bloom and Karl Zerbe\, tw
 o American painters associated with the Boston Expressionist school that e
 merged in the 1930s and 1940s. During their careers Bloom and Zerbe dedica
 ted themselves to portraying the human figure\, even when the popularity o
 f doing so was in decline. Using paint to express the weight and demands o
 f the flesh\, both artists portrayed the living (and dead) body in ways th
 at explore the human subject as a manifestation of embodied experience the
  subject as body\, the body as self. Paintings in the exhibition that will
  be discussed are Bloom's Female Corpse Back View (1947) and Zerbe?s self-
 portrait Job (1949).\n\nStart time: Friday 7:00pm
