Nashville based duo, Me and Molly was formed in 2015 by Molly Stevens and Declan McGarry. McGarry and Stevens have been writing songs together for years and playing around the Canada and the U.S. building separate fan bases. It wasn’t until a well-known producer in Nashville suggested they get together and form a duo that either of them really thought about it. “He told us we have a really unique sound together and a natural chemistry in our writing and performing,” says McGarry. “It just made sense. We had the songs, our voices blended great and we were good friends”.On their own they have achieved some impressive feats. McGarry was one of four artists nominated in 2012 for the CCMA New Artist Showcase. He was singled out by MusicRow Magazine founder David M. Ross who wrote “There were lots of interesting talents that took the stage but the one that caught my ears with stage presence, voice and interesting original songs was Declan McGarry.”McGarry hails from Winnipeg, Canada, a prairie city, which has been called home by several iconic musicians and artists including Neil Young, and Randy Bachman (The Guess Who, BTO). But it was the American music scene that produced McGarry’s earliest musical influences. He remembers listening to Nanci Griffith and John Denver while on family road trips. His first public performance at the age of three was at a family member’s wedding where he sang “Country Roads”. He hit all the notes and received a raucous standing ovation. “Ok maybe it wasn’t quite like that,” he confesses. “I think I did the chorus twice then called it a night. Always leave them wanting more!” In his teenage years he was drawn to rock and roll and the music of artists like Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty. Late in his teens he discovered a love for country music and Americana bringing him full circle back to where it all began for him.Stevens grew up in Macon, GA, singing in church and at many revivals led by her grandfather who was a celebrated and well-known preacher around the Southeast. Growing up in Macon, home to the Allman Brothers and Ottis Redding, to name a few, played a large role in creating her soulful voice. “As a kid singing was just always a huge part of my life,” says Stevens. “The other kids played games and sports after school and I went home to practice or sing at a church event. I always loved singing but it wasn’t until I discovered songwriting in my teens that I really found my voice.” Stevens studied theatre in college and moved to New York shortly after with acting aspirations. It wasn’t long, however, that she realized music was her true passion. Armed with a vintage acoustic Gibson guitar circa 1950 given to her by her grandfather shortly before he died, she moved to Nashville in 2009 to turn her passion into a career.Me and Molly are currently working on their debut recording. When not in Nashville writing and recording Me and Molly can be found touring the country playing bars, music halls and living rooms. And whether performing at a house concert or a sold out theater they leave it all on the stage and the crowd wanting more! [less-]

J Edwards was born in the northeastern corner of Arkansas, but spent most of his early years traveling across the country with his evangelist father and singing family. Edwards grew up with an instrument of some sort in his hands from necessity, playing what ever was needed at the nightly services. After traveling some on his own throughout the U.S. and some over seas tours in the christian music market, J Edwards settled into playing blues locally in Columbia, SC. With his catchy songs and raspy singing voice, it didn’t take long for him to build a close knit following of friends and fans. After commuting for five years, J Edwards moved to Nashville at the end of 2012 to concentrate more on songwriting. Though his voice still holds those strong qualities of a New Orleans blues man, Nashville has begun to recognize his ability to write and perform in many other genres including Country and Americana. While working on a new “Southern Soul” album in the summer of 2014, J Edwards decided to stop and concentrate completely on an idea he had for honoring Veterans, active military and their families. “Heroes” was finished in October, 2014 and is the most purpose-filled project Edwards has ever done. J Edwards plays weekly when at home in Nashville, but spends most of his time on the road playing large and small venues across the country.Source: Puckett's [less-]

Rock ‘n’ roll has rarely been as smart, soulful or satisfying than it has in the hands of The Posies. During an on/off career that’s spanned three decades, the Seattle-rooted outfit, led by musical polymaths Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, have shaped and re-shaped their muse, creating one of the more compelling catalogues in modern pop. From the very beginning, the band sired a succession of classic LPs – including the now seminal Dear 23 and Frosting on the Beater– that served as joyous rejoinders to a generation mired in grunge. And yet, for much of their history, the band has been playing a game of genre tag semantics, dodging facile and limiting descriptions like “power pop” and “retro pop” — terms which initially greeted their 1988 debut, Failure. Philip Dikeman, flute, Jared Hauser, oboe, Bil Jackson, clarinet, Leslie Norton, horn, Peter Kolkay, bassoonThe Blair Woodwind Quintet presents the world-premiere performance of Augusta Read Thomas’ Avian Escapades, a fanciful work with movements titled “Hummingbirds,” “Swans” and “Canaries.” Thomas will be in residence this week working with the quintet and Blair students. From the composer:“If it is helpful to have abstract images in mind and ear as you hear the music, for movement No. 1, please imagine the musicians as playful, capricious, virtuosic hummingbirds darting around a garden, whizzing across multifaceted, rapid changing chord progressions in a bebop-like, fast tempo. For movement No. 2, swans majestically floating in a lake, as the morning sun gradually rises, are infused with Bill Evans’ impressionist harmony and trademark rhythmically independent, singing, melodic lines. For movement No. 3, please envision active, jaunty, and alert canaries crisscrossing the perfumes of Charley Parker’s Yardbird Suite and Ornithology.”The quintet’s program will also include works by Anton Reicha, August Klughardt and Pavel Haas.Presented with gratitude to the Sartain Lanier Family Foundation for its generous support of the Blair SchoolThis event is free and open to the public. Lightning 100 presents Frightened Rabbit and Julien Baker.Beginning with the 2006 debut album Sing The Greys, Frightened Rabbit have become one of the U.K.'s most beloved exports. Though originally self-released, Sing The Greys earned the band a deal with indie label Fat Cat Records, who re-released the album and the two that followed: 2008's Midnight Organ Fight and 2010's The Winter of Mixed Drinks. Their last album, 2013's Pedestrian Verse, marked their Canvasback / Atlantic Records debut, as well as their most critically and commercially successful albums to date. In the UK, that LP was dubbed "a triumph" by The Quietus, while The Guardian described it as "a collection of stirring, instant anthems." Equal praise came from wide swath of U.S. outlets, including Rolling Stone, Time magazine, and Pitchfork, who praised Hutchison's "lucid assessments of social and emotional turmoil." The album also helped Frightened Rabbit achieve new commercial milestones, bringing a Top 10 debut in the U.K..Sometimes, things just seem to happen for a reason. The pieces fall into place in unexpected ways, and life takes a turn no one could have predicted. This rings strikingly true for the solo career of Memphis, Tennessee's Julien Baker. For years, Baker and a group of close friends have performed as the band Forrister (formerly The Star Killers), but when college took her four hours away, her need to continue creating found an outlet through solo work. The intent was never to make these songs her main focus, yet the process proved to be startlingly cathartic. As each song came into shape, it became more apparent that Baker had genuinely deep, surprisingly dark stories to tell from her thus far short life (she turns 20 this fall). Tales of her experiences are staggering, and when set to her haunting guitar playing, the results are gut wrenching and heartfelt, relatable yet very personal. There's something wonderfully hypnotizing about Baker gently confessing her soul with such tremendous honesty.-Marathon Music Works    [less-]

Coco Montoya's 2014 release, Songs From The Road, mines the material that he has written since striking out on his own in the mid-’90s, rocket-fuelling 14 of his best solo songs. From 1995’s Gotta Mind To Travel album, you’ll find a live reading of the grooving title track, alongside the irrepressible “Love Jail” and the poignant “Too Much Water.” From 1996’s “Ya Think I’d Know Better,” there’s the reflective groove of “You’d Think I’d Know Better By Now,” while from the following year’s “Just Let Go,” you’ll find stinging finale “My Side Of The Fence.” Source: CityWinery.com/Nashville [less-]
