The Nashville Jazz Workshop and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts announce the return of last year's popular jazz performance and education series, Jazz on the Move. The second of four Sunday afternoon programs is Sunday, February 10, 3:00pm, in the Frist Center Auditorium. The topic is The Blues, with Rod McGaha & Friends. All performances in this series are free and open to the public. The February program celebrates Black History Month with a focus on The Blues, an African American art form with pervasive influence on most American music. Trumpeter Rod McGaha will discuss the many styles of Blues and demonstrate the features of each style. He'll be joined by Lori Mechem, Roger Spencer, Marcus Finnie, Denis Solee, and Roy Agee. Admission is free and the public is invited. This presentation coincides with the Frist's exhibition of the art of Aaron Douglas, painter of the Harlem Renaissance who was also a longtime Nashville resident and Fisk University professor. Those attending Jazz on the Move will be able to visit the Frist's exhibits free of charge, and will also receive discounted parking. Rarely does the public have the chance to hear jazz artists explain their music and the different styles of jazz. The Jazz on the Move series is designed to take jazz out of the club or concert hall setting and into the community. Jazz fans and novices alike will have the chance to learn more about this great music. The Jazz on the Move series is made possible through a $5,000 grant to the Nashville Jazz Workshop from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
