Add Review/CommentPortland was incorporated in 1905, and a few years after incorporation, it became known as the Strawberry Capital of Tennessee. Portland held that distinction until the 1960s. In the following years, Portland's agricultural identity was overtaken by industrialization, changing forever the face of the city. There are still many places around Portland that grow and sell strawberries. Berries usually become available around May 1 and continue to be sold to about the middle of June. Enjoy the taste of fresh strawberries at the 2008 Strawberry Festival. There will be live music all day long with crafts, games, kiddie parade, carnival full of Midway rides and a beautiful display of fireworks to end the day. You don't want to miss out on all the fun, especially the juicy red strawberries!
