Add Review/CommentEvery church or synagogue has its unique way of singing this particular psalm. Michael Alec Rose provides a commentary on the powerful relationships between the biblical text and its diverse musical settings, along with several examples of how the 23rd Psalm has inspired composers from the classical tradition, while musicians and choral groups of several congregations across Nashville perform versions of the piece. In this concert, intended for music lovers of all sorts (and one of the events in Vanderbilt University's spring 2008 conference, "God in Music City") the cup of beautiful song will truly run over.
Sponsored by Vanderbilt's Center for the Study of Religion and Culture and by the Blair School of Music. Performers include: St. Ann's Catholic Church Folk Choir (David Krause); John McClure, Vanderbilt Divinity School professor; Vanderbilt's Voices of Praise (Courtney Williams); Cantor Stanley Weinberger, West End Synagogue; First Unitarian Universalist Church Choir (Jason Shelton); Christ Cathedral Choir (Michael Velting); Michael Alec Rose, piano.
