Most of the nearly four million men and women who fought in the Civil War were not professional soldiers. The vast majority were farmers, shopkeepers, artisans, factory workers and professionals who volunteered to fight for their country. Visitors to Stones River National Battlefield will get the chance to watch as new volunteers learn to stand, turn, march and fight while a ranger tells the story of how the armies of a nation divided began. Ranger programs will be offered at 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
