Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and film score composer Mark Knopfler was originally best-known as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the English rock band, Dire Straits, which he co-founded in 1977 with his brother David. Dire Straits' biggest studio album was 1985's Brothers in Arms which was an international hit and spawned several chart singles. It was also the first compact disc to sell a million copies and is largely credited for launching the CD format. After the Brothers in Arms tour Dire Straits went on a lengthy hiatus, with Knopfler concentrating mainly on film soundtracks. Over the past 12 years Knopfler's solo career has included many collaborations including the 2006 release of the much acclaimed All The Roadrunning with Emmylou Harris. In 2007, Knopfler released his most recent solos album, Kill To Get Crimson. Knopfler is one of the most respected fingerstyle guitarists of the modern rock era and was ranked #27 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

I went to the show, and immediately after the first few songs, was asking my date where Ray would be playing during his next concert, so to make plans to go see him again. It was just the beginning of the show and I just couldn't get enough of the beautiful music and lyrics. Ray's music is so humble and honest. And that voice is something you should experience live. I'm pretty much a big fan and you should be too. I've not been to many shows at the Ryman, but for the price, you get more than what you pay for and the sound and lighting is amazing as well! This was the best show I have ever had the pleasure to attend. The music was awesome and Vince was so down to earth and humble. He had the best group of players with him. It was just great!

I have a lot of respect for Eddie Izzard, his insights and comedy are fun and not the typical stand up. He is a brave guy. Last night in Nashville he was mediocre. He is adorable to look at, but he seemed to resent the fact he was there, and it was clear he was laughing at us. I also was surprised at how loyal his audience was to him thru the whole thing. I would like to see him in NYC, bet he brings his A game there. Collapse
