Terri Brinegar - Live Jazz Music
F. Scott's Restaurant and Jazz Bar
June 18, 2008
Terri began singing and playing music at a young age and was listening to her parents Bluegrass band when she was nine years old. Their band was a powerful influence on her musical style, as she loved the rich harmonies and acoustic instrumentation of this American music. She studied Voice at North Texas State University, where she received her bachelor's degree in vocal performance. Terri was then accepted at the famed Juilliard School of music in New York City to further pursue her vocal studies.
However, her love of roots music led her west to California, and Terri soon graduated into other roots-based genres, namely Blues, Soul, and R&B. With her combination of Bluesy vocal styling, her love of rich harmonies, and captivating stage presence, Terri is a dynamic musician and performer. She has performed at the Monterey Blues Festival, the Catalina Blues Festival, the Irvine Lake Blues Fest, as well as countless club and concerts venues.

I saw them last month at F. Scotts. They are a refreshing change from the usual "call-a-tune, play-some-solos" type of jazz group. One can tell they've rehearsed, and they love what they are doing. If you like that classic Hammond B-3 jazz quartet with drums, sax and guitar, you'll enjoy The Situation. The front man (tenor, alto, soprano saxes)keeps you entertained with humorous, sometimes self deprecating comments between songs. He's not the best bebopper around, but you can tell he's played a lot of music and knows how to keep things interesting. The B-3er, has obviously listened to a lot of Jimmy Smith, Lonnie Smith, and some old school players like Wild Bill Davis. He shows some modern chops as well with some Larry Young, Larry Goldings style licks. The drummer is very tasteful and compliments the band perfectly. They aren't exactly masters individually, but I still give them 4 stars because the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts. Collapse
