Big Band Dances in Centennial Park featuring Bill Sleeter Band

Come celebrate Metro Parks' 25th annual summer of Big Band Dances! The event premiered with the opening of Riverfront Park in 1983, and over the years the popular dances have moved to Centennial Park.  This year the free dances will be held every Saturday from June 7 through September 6, 2008 at the Event Shelter in Centennial Park. To help celebrate our anniversary, we will hold weekly amateur swing dance contests. The weekly winners will compete for the “King and Queen of Nashville Swing 2008” crowns on September 6. There will also be free ballroom dance lessons sponsored by Dance World 7:00pm - 7:30pm and 8:30pm - 8:40pm.

The live music begins at 7:30pm and continues until 10:00pm featuring the Bill Sleeter Band on June 21. The Centennial Café will have food and beverages for sale. People of all ages are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs or quilts to sit on the lawn. Parking is available along Park Plaza and in the Park. Presented by Metro Parks, the dances are sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, WAMB, The Musicians’ Trust Fund and Arts in the Parks.
