Add Review/CommentHosted by Jim Lauderdale and featuring a band led by Buddy Miller, the Americana Honors & Awards ceremony will also toast winners in six member-voted categories: Album, Artist, Instrumentalist, New/Emerging Artist, Song and Duo/Group of the Year. Performers will include: Sam Bush and his all-star band, Steve Earle with Allison Moorer, Chris Thile with Edgar Meyer, John Hiatt, Joan Baez, James McMurtry, Kane Welch Kaplin, Justin Townes Earle, Tift Merritt, Mike Farris, Ryan Bingham, The Steeldrivers and the much-anticipatedreunion of the original Jason & The Scorchers.
The Americana Music Association is proud to announce pioneers Jason and the Scorchers will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement in Performance Award at the annual Americana Honors and Awards show at the Ryman Auditorium. Original Jason and the Scorchers members Jason Ringenberg, Warner Hodges, Jeff Johnson and Perry Baggs will be on hand not only to accept the honor, but to perform together for the first time in more than a decade.
The AMA will also recognize iconic troubadour John Hiatt with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Songwriting and longtime Austin City Limits producer Terry Lickona with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, cultural icon and seminal American recording artist Joan Baez will receive the "Spirit of Americana" Free Speech Award which recognizes and celebrates artists who have ignited discussion and challenged the status quo through their music and their actions. The New/Emerging Artist nominees are: nomadic storyteller Ryan Bingham, vintage-inspired original Justin Townes Earle, virtuosic dream team the SteelDrivers and soul-saving singer's singer Mike Farris, each of whom will perfrom live at the event. Jerry Garcia will be named the recipient of the 2008 AMA President’s Award, a posthumous lifetime achievement recognition for innovation in American roots music.
