Featuring the works of Mark Belton (Long Island, NY), Nate Creekmore (Atlanta, GA), and Shaun Leonardo (New York, NY), HEROIC is an exhibition of work, heroic in size and/or content. Three artists, through varied processes, explore subjects of the male identity, mythic narrative and larger-then-life legends. Each artist invests in observations of not only masculine identity, but masculine identity as seen through an African, Latino and American perspectives. Through facile drawing, painting and performances, the artists in HEROIC speak to notions of power and control, myth and legend. HEROIC artists extend their respective mediums, pushing them from conventional to the heroic.
