A beautiful twenty-four foot mural is currently on display in the atrium multipurpose room at the Avon Williams Campus of Tennessee State University. The mural was created by students from the University of Florida and Florida State University, along with local artists under the leadership of Nashville artist, Michael J. McBride. The local artists that participated in the project are currently in mental health recovery. All of the participants involved in the making of this mural thought about positive ways that art plays a part in everyday life.

The Middle Tennessee Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition (MTMHSAC) was established to enable persons with mental illness and substance abuse disorders to express their creativity through art and to help combat stigma within the community about mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse by displaying art work.
