In a unique exhibition, Cheekwood presents the personal collection of internationally-recognized contemporary artist Red Grooms and his wife, fellow artist Lysiane Luong. Artists Collect: The Red Grooms and Lysiane Luong Private Collection includes work acquired from personal friends like Alex Katz and colleagues such as Phillip Pearlstein and Claes Oldenburg. "Cheekwood is thrilled to host this exclusive exhibition," said Jack Becker, Ph.D., Cheekwood's President/CEO. "Red and Lysiane have been collecting outstanding art for many decades and this exhibition offers the opportunity for our visitors to explore their private world and learn about what influenced them. Cheekwood will also be displaying some of Red's and Lysiane's work in an adjacent gallery." Artists Collect touches on several important areas in the collectors' lives: New York, their love for travelling, and their connection with the Southeastern United States.
