This "Stand Against AIDS" event is part of a multi-city movement calling for a national strategy to combat HIV/AIDS. Leaders of Street Works and Nashville CARES, two leading local AIDS service providers, will address the press and answer questions about who is affected by HIV and AIDS and what every citizen can do to make a difference. The occasion is the arrival of a "Stand Against AIDS" caravan that set out from Maine and is one of eight caravans visiting 90 cities before converging September 24-26 in Oxford, Mississippi to dramatize the need for the next president and administration to forge a comprehensive national AIDS strategy. Come to Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church, 2708 Jefferson Street, at 2 p.m. to learn about the HIV epidemic in our region and the critical importance of national policy in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The event will also include a brief rally with local people living with HIV, their loved ones, advocates, health care providers and social workers. Joseph Interrante, CEO of Nashville CARES, and Ron Crowder, Executive Director of Street Works, will speak.
