On Saturday, September 27, 2008, The Hermitage will participate in the fourth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian magazine. Enjoy free Museum admission at hundreds of participating museums and cultural venues nationwide. Visit Smithsonian.com for more details, a list of participating locations, and to download your Museum Day Admission Card. The day reflects the spirit of the magazine and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution.

In addition, Myers Brown will be presenting, "To Avenge Fort Mims." The Creek Indian attack on Fort Mims in south Alabama in 1813 brought Andrew Jackson into the midst of the War of 1812. Delivering the Creeks a major defeat at Horseshoe Bend, Jackson became a regional hero and set him on a course for national prominence. This program is set in 1813 as horse-mounted volunteers under General Jackson prepare to move against the Creeks under the able leadership of General John Coffee. This program will take place from 1:00pm-4:00pm in the mansion backyard.
