Special screening of The Little Traitor for area religious school students and teachers in grades 8-12; parents welcome. Israel/USA 2007, 88 minutes, In English and Hebrew with English subtitles, Director and Screenwriter: Lynn Roth, Featuring Alfred Molina, Ido Port, Theodore Bikel. Winner, Audience Award, Best Feature Film, 2008 Palm Beach International Film Festival

The Little Traitor takes place in Palestine in 1947, just a few months before Israel becomes a state. Proffy Liebowitz (Ido Port), a militant yet sensitive eleven year old, wants nothing more than for the occupying British to leave. One evening, while out after curfew, Proffy is seized by British officer Sergeant Dunlop (Alfred Molina). Instead of arresting him, Dunlop deposits him back home, and an unlikely friendship develops between these two foes. However, this poignant but problematic alliance is judged harshly by Proffy’s friends and neighbors, and Proffy’s loyalty is subject to some very serious questioning. In this touching tale of friendship, trust and betrayal, the maturation of the impressionable Proffy parallels Israel’s transitions into statehood. This heart-warming story shows how sometimes your worst enemy can end up being your friend and confidant.
