Children of the Sun, Israel/USA, 2007, 70 minutes, in Hebrew with English subtitles, Director: Ran Tal, Screenwrtiers: Ran Tal, Ron Goldman. Winner, Best Documentary, Jerusalem Film Festival.

Children of the Sun is the incredibly moving documentary that chronicles the children of the first kibbutzim in Israel. These kids were educated in an ideological society that aspired to replace the traditional family with the collective one, to subjugate the will of the individual in favor of the common good and a life of equality. Director Ran Tal collects more than a dozen of these first-generation kibbutzniks and pairs their reminiscences with rare archival footage, some of which dates back to the 1930s. Children of the Sun is an innovative, fascinating, and authentic portrait of a disappearing world.
