Explore the history and culture of the Jewish experience through movies, special events, panel discussions and interesting guest speakers.

Tonight's feature is Jerusalem Cuts, Israel, 2008, 52 minutes, in English, Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles, Director: Liran Atzmor.

The founding of Israel – specifically, the 1948 war for Jerusalem, which erupted just five days following the end of the British Mandate over Palestine and Israel's declaration of independence – is seen through the work of two photographers in this compelling documentary. Assigned by Life magazine, Englishman John Phillip became sympathetic with the plight of the Jewish people and made passionate and emotional pictures of the evacuation of thousands of Jews from the Old City. Ali Zaarour was one of the few photographers who documented the Palestinian side of the story. The film also profiles Jack Padwais, producer of the first major film about the birth of Israel, Hill 24 Does Not Answer. These three men offer three different points of view on a pivotal moment in the history of the Middle East.
