Explore the history and culture of the Jewish experience through movies, special events, panel discussions and interesting guest speakers. Today's feature is Praying in Her Own Voice, Israel, 2007, 60 minutes, in English and Hebrew with English subtitles,Director: Yael Katzir.

    Praying in Her Own Voice
documents the courageous struggle of the famed “Women of the Wall” movement. This group has spearheaded the battle for female equality in the religious world. Their main focus has been the Wailing Wall, the holiest site for Jews where orthodox, conservative and reform women are not allowed to gather and pray. Director Yael Katzir takes us into the epicenter of their struggle, as we witness them praying aloud, negotiating for equal treatment, and enduring the contentious confrontations of their ultra-Orthodox opponents. The story of the Women of the Wall is a test case for the deprived status of women in Israeli public life. This memorable documentary highlights the power and conviction of women seeking religious freedom.

Special guest panel: Filmmaker, Yael Katzir, Moderator; Miriam Halachmi, West End Synagogue; Rabbi Shana Goldstein Mackler, The Temple; Nechama Rothstein, Co-Director Chabad Student Center@Vanderbilt; Rabbi Saul Strossberg, Sherith Israel; and Esther Tiechtel, Educator, Congregation Beit Tefilah Chabad.
