    Dr. James Loewen is the author of several books including, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong, Lies Across America: What Our Historic Sites Get Wrong and Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism. According to his Web site, Dr. Loewen taught race relations at the University of Vermont for 20 years and currently lives in Washington D.C. He has received the First Annual Spivack Award of the American Sociological Association, the Oliver Cromwell Cox award for Distinguished Anti-Racist Scholarship and the American Book Award, among others. He is also a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians. Dr. Loewen will address the topic, "Ways of Knowing," as part of the Belmont First Year Seminar common experience.
