Individuals can learn about a Nashville-based organization's leadership training efforts in Africa by attending the 2008 ILDI Breakfast at the Russ Carroll Conference Center at Financial Peace Plaza. The International Leadership Development Institute's mission is to give third-world community leaders the tools they need to improve and expand non-profit programs addressing problems such as poverty and AIDS.

Since founding ILDI in 2004, Vanderbilt Medical School alumni Dr. Steve Robinson and his wife, Dr. Cristy Robinson, have seen the opening of the Community Development Leadership School in Cape Town, South Africa, as well as a medical clinic network in Sierra Leone. Now, with the help of volunteers and much-needed donations, they are working to expand their training program into other developing countries around the world. The free event will feature a project overview by the Robinsons; an African dance demonstration; a mini-documentary; and presentations by Shodankeh Johnson, ILDI's implementing partner in Sierra Leone and the descendant of a freed slave, and ILDI South African Project Director Selena Headley.

"Our goal is to build community awareness and raise much-needed funds in Middle Tennessee," Cristy Robinson said. "With their help, we can develop skilled, excellent and empowered leaders in South Africa, Sierra Leone and other developing nations." All donations to the 501 c 3 organization are tax deductible.
