A night of uplifting, lyrical performances from the top young poets, emcees, and spoken word artists in the region. This is the premiere event for Youth Speaks Nashville, a non-profit dedicated to building a culture of literacy and a multi-generational community of poets in Middle Tennessee. The evening will include performances from leading poets at TSU, Vanderbilt, Belmont, American Baptist College, Trevecca, MTSU, Meharry, Maplewood, Hillsboro, Stratford, Hunters Lane, Cane Ridge, Nashville School of the Arts, and the YMCA. Proceeds will help fund the placement of poet mentors in the area's public schools and youth organizations.

"The kids loved each other. There was so much cheering, hugging, fist pumping, and hollering it might have been a sporting event, except the fans were rooting for every player on the team. The Grand Slam Final was a breathtaking reminder of the power of creativity, hope, and free speech." - Letter to the Tennessean in response to Youth Speaks Nashville's 1st Annual Poetry Slam
