In the 1970s, the Jack Daniel's Distillery commissioned woodcut artist Dan Quest to create a series of woodcut prints of scenes depicting the buildings and machine work of the distillery and the nearby majestic town of Lynchburg, Tenn. From 1971 to 1985, each visitor to the distillery would receive a woodcut print in the mail as a commemorative gift of his or her tour. This unusual marketing strategy combined the use of an artistic method and medium with an entirely commercial intent. The woodblock printmaking technique creates graphic images normally in one color. Quest's prints carry a sense of nostalgia and help to communicate the distiller's commercial identity. Nashville residents Joe and Laura Carrillo have been collecting Quest's prints and currently have more than 100 in their private collection.

Note: This exhibition is in the East Wing Gallery. A free opening reception will be held on May 22.
