Donated to the Customs House Museum in 2004 by the Richard A. Florsheim Art Fund, these lithographs focus mostly on Florsheim’s impressions of refracted light in landscapes, scenes of industry and night-time cities. His work has been collected by major American and European museums.

Richard A. Florsheim (1916-1979) was a self-educated graphic artist who became a dedicated educator committed to improving conditions under which artists work. He was only distantly related to the founders of the Florsheim Shoe Company. In his will, Florsheim established a small trust fund to assist meritorious older American artists in the pursuit of their careers in art. The Richard A. Florsheim Art Fund operated from 1989 to 2003 and provided nearly 500 grants for meritorious recognition. Its assets were transferred to the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation in 2006.

Helpful Information: Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and in all areas of the Museum. Free parking for Museum visitors is available behind the Museum at the top of the hill off South Second Street. Sundays are free for everyone!
