The Parthenon is exhibiting twenty-three photographs by Nancy Hellebrand who takes as her subject elemental aspects of the landscape -- the earth, air and water of the exhibition title -- but manipulates the results, pushing these basic elements into the realm of abstraction. Hellebrand's photographs illustrate her reactions to the landscape rather than a desire to depict it in accurate detail. In this way, each photograph becomes a meditation upon the landscape's elements. 

Hellebrand's photographs are in many significant collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of London, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Nancy Hellebrand: Earth, Air and Water is organized in cooperation with Katharine T. Carter and Associates.
