For 34 years, the Harding Art Show has been one of the principal fund-raising activities of the Parents Auxiliary of Harding Academy, an independent coeducational school serving kindergarten through eighth grade. The school is very proud of the art show and its tradition in the Nashville community. The show, which began in 1975, just four years after the opening of the school, has grown from a modest gathering of artists in the early years to one of the largest exhibitions of fine art in the southeastern United States. The Harding Art Show is an important venue for participants and has launched the careers of significant Southern artists. The show features exciting works from all over the southeast. Participation in the show is by invitation only and is limited in the total number of artists participating. Last year invitations were extended to 71 artists to participate after an exhaustive selection process.
The 2009 Harding Art Show Featured Artist is Franklin resident, Deann Hebert (pronounced A-Bear). Always having a passion for the arts, Deann is known for her brightly colored and highly textured paintings. Her signature impasto-style of applying layer upon layer of acrylic paint, and finishing with a high gloss UV-protectant varnish is a technique that Deann developed by trial and error. Her paintings evolve within each stage, resulting in a wonder of texture and color. Most artists use either a palette knife or brush to create works, Deann uses both to achieve a distinctive look that is one-of-a-kind. A prolific painter, you can catch her most days working in her studio located in the historic Factory at Franklin.
Helpful Information: There is no parking for evening events on campus or in the neighborhood. Parking and shuttle service is available at Immanuel Baptist Church, 222 Belle Meade Boulevard.
