    A conversation in two parts:

First, art historian Trinita Kennedy (associate curator, Frist Center for the Visual Arts) will introduce the Burana Codex, also known as the Carmina Burana, a thirteenth-century manuscript of poems and illuminations now in the Bavarian State Library in Munich. She will relate this important manuscript to works of art presently on view at the Frist Center in the exhibition Medieval Treasures from the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Second, renowned choreographer Paul Vasterling (artistic director, Nashville Ballet) will discuss the music written by German composer Carl Orff’s from 1935–36 to accompany the poems. Both the original manuscript and the Orff composition serve as the inspiration for the Nashville Ballet’s forthcoming production Carmina Burana. Vasterling will share with the audience insights into his own creative process as well as a behind-the-scenes look at his ballet, including rehearsal footage, and costume and set design sketches.
