In conjunction with the Nashville Film Festival, Nashville Ballet is pleased to sponsor one of the films, Gonzo Ballet, being showcased at the Nashville Film Festival on Friday, April 17, 2009. Margo Sappington created a new work, COMMON PEOPLE, which premiered February 15, 2007 for Milwaukee Ballet to selections from William Shatner’s CD, “Has Been.” Mr. Shatner has produced a documentary film of the collaboration, which will premiere at the Nashville Film Festival, under the title “William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet.” This movie has sparked much national interest and chronicles Margo Sappington’s journey to create the ballet to William Shatner’s music, and his approach to the creation of his CD with Nashville musicians. Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling will be at the premiere to introduce Brad Paisley, who co-wrote the song REAL for Shatner’s CD. Shatner was also featured in Paisley’s video Celebrity.

As an added benefit for the Nashville community, Ms. Sappington will be teaching a Master Class for all area students. This Contemporary Pointe Master Class will focus on students with a strong foundation in ballet with several years of pointe technique, at an advanced level of training, college level and above.
