"Inherit the Wind" by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee opens at Encore Theatre Company on Friday, April 17 for a three-weekend run. Director Jason Deathridge explains, "This is the fictionalized account of the Scopes "Monkey" trial which took place in Dayton, Tenn. in 1925. This event - not only shook the world, but turned the small rural town on its end - when a high school science teacher attempted to teach Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, contrary to a Tennessee state law that prohibited the teaching of anything besides creationism. "Inherit the Wind" will take you to the fictional town of Hillsboro where you will be caught up in the carnival-like atmosphere that permeates this little town throughout the landmark trial.
