Murfreesboro native and RCA Nashville Recording artist Chris Young is hosting a benefit concert with MTSU and The Big 98 WSIX on Friday, May 1 at MTSU's Murphy Center. Chris Young & Friends Tornado Relief Benefit Presented by MTSU and The Big 98 WSIX will be hosted by Newman from The Big 98 WSIX and will feature performances by Young and Richie McDonald with more artists to be announced at a later date. Proceeds will help support victims of the recent tornadoes in Rutherford County through both the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross and Tennessee Emergency Response Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
Young saw the destruction in Rutherford County first hand when his childhood home's street was directly hit by the April 10th tornado. Young's family home only suffered minor damage but many of their neighbors' homes were completely destroyed. Devastated by the loss of so many in his community, Young decided to reach out to some of his friends for a benefit concert to help rebuild his hometown.
The Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization made up of more than 700 charitable funds that support an array of charitable purposes from basic human need and education to arts, animal welfare and beyond. Since its beginning in 1991, The Community Foundation has distributed $408 million to community programs and institutions. The Community Foundation’s focus during a time of disaster is to connect generosity with need. Gifts to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund of The Community Foundation will help address response and long-term recovery and rebuild lives in the aftermath of the tornadoes. To donate directly please visit The Community Foundation’s website or mail a check to P.O. Box 440225 Nashville, TN 37244.
The American Red Cross helps people affected by disasters like the recent tornadoes through donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. On those rare occasions when donations exceed Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters. The American Red Cross name is used with its permission, which in no way constitutes an endorsement, express or implied, of any product, service, company, individual or political position.
