The Rymer Gallery presents Southern Metal, an exhibition featuring works by Drew Galloway and Gordon Chandler. Each of the artist’s use of metal in their works, though very different, is integral to their execution and wholly engaging.

Drew Galloway's artworks incorporate found tin sheets that he has burned and manipulated to create a collage background over a wooden substrate. Galloway will then use the patina of the burnt and rusted metal as a layer in the oil painting that he then applies to the surface. The finished artwork has the qualities of a Rauschenberg, or Hockney collage, the mid-tone use of primatura in a Caravaggio, and the photo-realist surface of a Gerhard Richter. He has achieved a significant amount of success in his burgeoning career, including very well received exhibitions of his work in Atlanta.

Gordon Chandler has been working with metal for over thirty years. He creates bravely profound and iconic objects that transcend their materials in original and minimalist compositions. His artwork is as timely as it is mindful. He was green before green was hip. His signature 55-gallon drum kimonos are proof of his ability to find, that which is most simple, yet hardest to be, original. Chandler has a national reputation as an established artist as exemplified by very well received shows in Chicago, Atlanta , and Miami.

The Rymer Gallery will also be hosting a small series of paintings in the back gallery by local emerging artist Jeffrey Bertrand. A new series of numbered paintings of iconic musicians on antique books will be on display by Bertrand. The paintings explore the relationship of numerology to celebrity splash and impact with apt social commentary.
