Amun Ra Theatre presents Before the People Came, written by Dr. jeff obafemi carr. The play is a children’s jazz choreo-poem that reworks an African folktale about a group of animals who are dying of thirst on a desert plain. Rabbit discovers a tree of juicy pears that can save them all, only it is guarded by a vicious tiger. The animals must learn to put aside their differences and work together to save themselves. Before the People Came had its world premiere as a collaborative effort between ART and the historic Nashville Children’s Theatre in February of 2004. It sold out 38 straight shows and spawned a popular children’s storytelling CD. The play is targeted to pre-k children up to adults. The show will also be featured in this year's National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
