Me, My Cat And My House - A Glimpse Of Art Brut

This exhibition is an installation of drawings, paintings, and objects created by Bill Guion, Lisa Manus, Tracy L. Martin, Paul Miktarian and Mike Rewis. All of the artists have mental disabilities. The exhibition asks the question, “Is there such a thing as so-called Outsider Art? Who is the outsider? Is it the artist, or is everybody an outsider in some way?”

This show attempts to shed light on the relationship between the artistic process and the product. In this case the product is very colorful, joyful and pure. The intentions are not to resolve the problems of the world, but to convey more basic needs.

In the end it does not matter if we call it Raw Art, Art Brut, or Outsider Art - we all become Insiders. Artists will be present for the opening. Spontaneous music may occur.

Presented by gallery F @ Scarritt-Bennett Center with the support of The Kennedy Center at Vanderbilt University and Pacesetters, Cookeville. An opening reception will be held on July 11 at 6:00pm.
