Jim Hoobler, senior curator of art & architecture and curator of the Capitol, will present a slide show about the Capitol along with a walking tour of the current exhibition,The People’s House: A Temple of Democracy, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of the State Capitol. The exhibition showcases the rich history of this magnificent building and the accomplishments of state government. The exhibition will feature approximately 100 artifacts including historic documents, paintings, photographs, furniture, and many other items. Included are juried images images by local photographers Peggy Jeter, Nicholas Dantona and Jerry Park, all of whom are members of the Brentwood Camera Club. Other exhibit highlights include: an original letter from David Crockett, written in 1834, while he served as a Tennessee congressman; a flag carried by Fifth Confederate Regiment from 1862 -1864; secretary desk with bookcase, 1845-1865, owned by Governor Isham Harris; and the inaugural gown worn by First Lady Betty Dunn in 1971.
