Wasted Thread: A Textile Recycling Project at Blend Studio

Wasted Thread, a textile recycling project has been created by Nashville-based fiber artist and earth lover Tiffany Denton, who discovered the need for textile recycling and has created a way to bring awareness to the issue. She is collecting wasted threads from several states and many local supporters as she teaches individuals from the community how to re-use clothing and textiles. The results of this community-based recycling and art project will be on display in the exhibit, Wasted Thread, from August 1 to August 29 at Blend Studio in Downtown Nashville.

For the project, Denton will be collecting used clothing and textiles in any condition (even stained or with holes) from as many people as possible. Each piece will be labeled with the name and location of the person who donates it. All of these pieces will then be stitched together to create one large installation art piece. Several local businesses will serve as drop-off locations and supporters of this project: Art and Invention Gallery in East Nashville, Green Wagon in Sylvan Park, Mesh Boutique in Murfreesboro, and Blend Studio in the Arcade downtown. Items may also be mailed to Blend Studio at 79 Arcade, Nashville, TN 37219. Items may also be dropped off at the opening reception to help us continue this project.

After the installation, fabric from all of the collected items will be sewn into new items that will be sold at local galleries and shops. The money raised will be sent to Kiva, an organization that helps people of poverty survive throughout the world.
