Experience Civil War camp life on Saturday, July 25, at the Second Annual Civil War Encampment at Travellers Rest Plantation. The historic site will host infantry, artillery and medical re-enactors sharing the experience of the day-to-day struggles of life during the Civil War. Learn about the 1860’s battlefield medicine, experience the process of a howitzer demonstration, interact with battle weary soldiers, visit the children’s schoolhouse and tour the home that served as the headquarters for the Confederate army under the leadership of General John Bell Hood.

Scavenger hunts will also be available in the gift shop - Secrets, Scouts and Spies: A Civil War Spy Adventure - the hunt sends participants on a quest to decipher a coded message, working as both a scout and spy during the adventure. Cannon firings will take place twice, performed by re-enactors of Huwald’s Battery. Picnics are allowed on the grounds during the event.
