All arts organization executive directors and staff, as well as individual artists, are encouraged to attend this eye-opening forum hosted by the Metro Arts Commission. "Arts In Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative" is a 50-city touring program designed to provide free planning assistance and consulting to arts organizations throughout the U.S. Michael Kaiser, president of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., will lead the forum, offering his ideas on how arts organizations can become better during down economic times. At the heart of Kaiser's presentation is the idea that during tough times, arts organizations need to be doing more instead of less. Areas of discussion are fundraising, building more effective boards of trustees, budgeting, marketing, technology, and other areas pertinent to maintaining a vital performing arts organization during a troubled economy.

Michael Kaiser has been President of the John F. Kennedy Center since January 2001. Dubbed "the turnaround king" for his work at such arts institutions as the Kansas City Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre and the Royal Opera House, Kaiser has earned international renown for his expertise in arts management. In February 2009, he created "Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative," a program to provide free arts management consulting to non-profit performing arts organizations around the United States. His latest book, The Art of the Turnaround, will be available for purchase at the event.
