October 8-November 20, 2009
Add Review/Comment
TSU will host two visiting artists -- Carl Pope and Aisha Cousins -- for a joint exhibition. Carl Pope's work has been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art (Biennial) and MoMA. His work explores the use of text and language as it informs identity, specifically the black identity. His project, "The Bad Air Smelled of Roses," is shown as an introduction to his work as he partners with TSU's Space for New Media and Nashville artists on a collaborative print project (Spring 2010). Aisha Cousins is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work explores the black female identity through combining the cultural signifiers of hair braiding and jump rope.
Carl Pope Reception and Artist Talk: Thursday, October 1, 4:00pm reception followed by 6:00pm artist talk.
Aisha Cousins Artist Performance: Diva Dutch interactive public performance in the TSU Main Campus Amphitheatre (outside Elliott Hall/Women’s Building) on Thursday November, 5, 3:00pm-6:00pm.
