Greg Ridley: Master of Copper Tooling
August 30, 2009
Join Constance Ridley Smith and Kate Ridley Jackson as they celebrate the life and work of Greg Ridley (1925-2004), whose beautiful copper repousse panels adorn the Grand Reading Room of the Main Library. Greg Ridley yearned to express drama in his artwork. In the manner of Hale Woodruff, he sought to achieve it through the manipulation of color. Like Aaron Douglas, he experimented with composition, using distortion and abstraction. But it was only when Greg changed his medium, opting for metal instead of canvas, that he achieved the height of dramatic expression in his art.
Reception at 2:00pm with readings from Greg Ridley's biography and book signing to follow.
