The works of Nashville native and graphics design pioneer will be featured in the forthcoming exhibition, Talking Graphics: The Visual Designs of Jane Davis Doggett, opening September 17 at the Tennessee State Museum and running through October 25. Doggett's works consist of boldly colored, geometric designs exploring spatial relationships

Doggett, who received an M.F.A. from Yale University’s School of Art and Architecture in the mid-1950s, translated what she studied there into the then-new field of architectural and environmental graphic design. As a result, she developed a special niche in airport graphic design, creating “wayfinding” signage for airport terminals across America.

Please note: There will also be several opportunities to hear the artist speak during her visit to Nashville. She will give a free public lecture on Thursday, September 17 at 1:30pm at the Nossi College of Art in Goodlettsville. Watkins College of Art and Design in Nashville will host a “Master Class” with Doggett on Friday, September 18. The State Museum will offer a “walking tour” of the exhibition with the artist on Saturday, September 19, 2:00pm-4:00pm, and the general public is invited to attend free of charge. On Monday, September 21, Doggett is scheduled to speak at 11:30am in Murfreesboro at Middle Tennessee State University’s Todd Hall, Room 348.
