A 29-year-old native of Garrison, Texas, Erin McCarley's debut album suggests she fits somewhere between Fiona Apple and Colbie Caillat, a landscape that accommodates pop that's clever as well as cloying and calculated. Ms. McCarley is an interesting songwriter, and as a singer she knows how to use the music that surrounds her.
