Lessons from Afghanistan, China, Kenya & Liberia. Presented by: Thomas Hoerz, Visiting Scholar, Denmark Relief, rehabilitation and development should not be seen as chapters in a book: one ends, the next follows. Nor do they follow each other with an overlap. Each approach is a bundle of methods that vary in size and composition over time. Every society requires elements of relief, rehabilitation and development working side by side, all the time, to function. With examples from Afghanistan (drought response in conflict), China (post-earthquake rehabilitation), Liberia (resettlement and health emergency) and Kenya (post-Tsunami disaster preparedness) the lecture will outline and encourage to explore the vast variety of opportunities to invest, through intelligent relief, in sustainable development. Food and refreshments provided!
