Join a community sing-in of the best-loved choruses from Handel's Messiah, along with the Music City Baroque as they kick off the holiday season. Music City Baroque (formerly Belle Meade Baroque) is a professional baroque orchestra using authentic period instruments, directed by Murray Somerville. To start the evening the orchestra, led by guest concertmaster Stephen Redfield, plays the last great Concerto Grosso of Handel, celebrating the 250th anniversary of his death; and the Music City Baroque Chamber Chorus joins the players for Bach's festive "Magnificat" in D, with guest trumpet soloist Brian Shaw. After intermission, the audience will join in singing their favorite Messiah choruses. Amateur and professional singers, choir members, folks who just like to sing in the shower and all who enjoy listening to fine music are invited. This is a splendid way to start the holiday season! (And for tenors there's a special bonus. You'll be singing the Hallelujah chorus at proper baroque pitch. It will make all those high notes seem so much easier; you'll feel like Pavarotti all over again!)
