Inspired by Dichos: Words to Live, Love, and Laugh by in Latin America, this program explores the history, wisdom, and wit embedded in the speech of women of age. Focusing on the Panama Canal Zone as a case study, Dr. Ifeoma Nwankwo of Vanderbilt University will contextualize the "dichos" on the "Red Devil" buses by exploring the humorous, poignant, and "beautiful-ugly," words and life stories of Caribbean-Panamanian women. Using these songs, stories, and poems, Dr. Nwankwo will also lead an interactive activity designed to give audience members a chance to learn innovative approaches to recovering, listening, and utilizing the voices of women of all races right here in Nashville.
