With 2 million paid song downloads through their site MuleTracks, seven critically acclaimed studio records already released, a handful of DVDs and live albums, plus an ever-expanding fanbase and sold-out coast-to-coast tours, Gov't Mule could easily rest on its laurels. Yet when you're in one of the hardest working bands in rock history, pushing yourself to greater heights always supersedes cashing in on past successes.

With By A Thread, Gov't Mule's first studio album in three years, recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in the Texas Hill Country, the band – which features guitarist/lead vocalist Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis – meets those challenges and more. Gov't Mule unveiled By A Thread on a worldwide tour that began with two nights headlining Warren's own Mountain Jam festival in upstate New York, and included stops at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa and two nights at San Francisco's Warfield Theatre in late September.

      This was an awesome show, which would be expected from the awesome talents involved... but they also had their friend & local yocal Audely Freed sit in for a few, which is always welcome. I've seen... Expand

      This was an awesome show, which would be expected from the awesome talents involved... but they also had their friend & local yocal Audely Freed sit in for a few, which is always welcome. I've seen Audley sit in with the Crowes at this holy venue as well, rocking Allman Bros 'Dreams' back in Nov. It seemed like Warren wanted to see how some of his favorites sounded at the Ryman, because he did all kinds of covers... The Beatles 'Dear Prudence', The Doors 'When the Musics Over', Grateful Dead 'St. Stephen'(jam), Neil Young 'Cortez the Killer' ... ALL IN ONE SHOW! Audely came back out in the encore for Cortez and took center stage for a glorious jam. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Collapse
