    The Women's Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee announces Jennifer Buffett, philanthropic visionary and co-chair of the NoVo Foundation, will speak at the 12th Annual Power of the Purse® Luncheon, which celebrates women and contributes to The Women's Fund's ability to make grants to nonprofit programs serving women and girls in need in Middle Tennessee. 

    Jennifer Buffett's work in philanthropy began in 1997 when her in-laws, Susan and Warren Buffett, placed Jennifer and her husband, Peter, in charge of a charitable fund. NoVo, Latin for "to change, alter, invent," is a philanthropic organization focused primarily on the empowerment of women and girls.

    Jennifer is responsible for the strategic direction of NoVo, whose 2009 grants will exceed $40 million. Among NoVo's initiatives, Jennifer partnered with the Nike Foundation on a $100 million grant program entitled "The Girl Effect," focused on advancing the economic empowerment and well-being of adolescent girls in the developing world.

    For 11 years, the Power of the Purse® Luncheon and tribute book have celebrated and honored women, raising more than $1 million for The Women's Fund. Since the inception of the Fund, hundreds of Middle Tennessee nonprofits have received grants to help women and girls in need.
