NJW and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts announce the return of this popular Sunday afternoon lecture/performance series.

Going into its fourth year, Jazz on the Move presents a monthly program spotlighting a significant artist, composer, or period of jazz history. NJW faculty artists provide stellar musical performances and informative commentary, giving audiences unique insights into the music.

First in the series is Lori Mechem and Ritmos Picantes Sunday, January 10, celebrating "Antonio Carlos Jobim: 50 Years of Bossa Nova." In 1959 a new music from Brazil took the world by storm with recordings by Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz. Antonio Carlos Jobim was one of the foremost composers of the "Bossa Nova" movement. Compositions such as "The Girl From Ipanema," "Wave," "Corcovado" and many others are recognized worldwide and are staples of the American jazz repertoire. Joining Ritmos for this musical tribute to the great "Tom Jobim," will be Jeff Steinberg with commentary, and guest vocalist Teree McCormick.

Performance is at 3 pm in the auditorium of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, 919 Broadway. Admission is free. Those attending also receive discounted parking, free admission to the Frist's galleries.

This series is made possible by an Arts Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission.
