Dorna McDonald May Art Exhibit

Dorna McDonald May was a member of the NJW community who passed away November 30. An accomplished artist as well as a jazz fan, she often attended NJW events with her saxophonist husband Bo, who has arranged an exhibition of her paintings as a memorial and chance for our community to celebrate her life and work.

Dorna received an MFA degree in painting and art history from the University of Georgia. She also studied at Vanderbilt University, the University of Colorado, and the Harris School of Art in Arrezo,Italy.
She worked as a costume designer at MGM, a set designer for an ABC Movie of the Week, an illustrator and an art director for print, film, and television in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Nashville. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally including solo shows at Art and Invention Gallery (Nashville), The Renaissance Center (Dickson), J. Rosenthal Gallery (Chicago), The Press Club (Chicago), and Cheekwood (Nashville) .

The show opens Friday, January 15 with a reception at the Jazz Workshop. In Dorna's honor, NJW Director Lori Mechem will perform selections from her CD, The Dream of Life.
