The gouache on paper and 3D objects presented function as a metaphor for living in relationship as well as a reflection on our contemporary social and economic moment. Hays is engaged in a dialogue on the cultural habit of marking transitional events through images (flags, festoons, tents, fences, bouquets) that one associates with marking temporary site or fleeting action (grand opening, construction).

Jodi Hays studied at School of Visual Arts and graduated from the University of Tennessee (BFA, Drawing). She pursued studio and curatorial projects in Boston where she lived (1998-2005), earning her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Art where she studied with Sharon Hayes, Sowon Kwon, Craig Stockwell and Christine Heibert, among others. Her work is shown internationally and she has completed residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Cooper Union School of Art. She teaches and curates at Tennessee State University where she lives in Nashville, TN. Her work can be viewed through Gallery ELL and at The Drawing Center (NYC) Viewing Program.

Note: This exhibition is in the North Wing Gallery. A free lecture followed by an opening reception will be held on January 21 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.
