The American Experience
January 26-May 14, 2010
Add Review/Comment
This exhibit will explore a wide range of American fine and decorative art objects from various collections of Belmont University Alumni. Included in the show will be furniture, silver, glass, textiles, paintings and prints. These pieces reflect American culture from the Colonial period to the end of the nineteenth century. The exhibition will demonstrate attempts to create a new American identity while still copying a European style. Some of the highlights of the show will be a Tennessee-made sugar chest and two rare Tennessee-made sugar boxes. The silver will span from Colonial silver beakers to a Tiffany Fried Chicken server. Examples of some of the earliest made American glass will also be shown.. It is guest curated by Mark Brown, Belmont Mansion Executive Director.
Helpful Information: A reception will be held in the Leu Art Gallery on Wednesday, February 3 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. At 7:30pm, Elyse Luray from History Detectives will present a program on collecting art and antiques in Massey Concert Hall. The reception and program are free and open to the public.
